Getting Dressed

I found myself doing some window shopping whilst online today... but as if I was a girl. This is what I came up with:

The jacket: Kimberly Ovitz

The Pant: Kimberly Ovitz

The Shoe: Tania Spinelli

The jacket is ultimate, end-all fab.

Jesus, is Just a Spanish Boy's Name

Possibly the most unconventional mix I've created to date, yet somehow, I think it works. And the Scottish boys, Frightened Rabbit headline!

Michael Dixon - Jesus Justice

1. Genesis - Justice
2. Head Rolls Off - Frightened Rabbit
3. We Are Rockstars - Does It Offend You, Yeah?
4. Let There Be Light - Justice
5. Television Rules the Nation / Crescendolls - Daft Punk

An Interesting Man is in Vogue

In this up coming months American Vogue I stumbled upon an interesting spread with high profile models and their boyfriends. Below is German model, Julia Stegner and her boy, Steven Pan.

Seeing all of these girls with their significant others made me realize a trend within the creative industries. Of course, I am the last to finally grasp this, but these gorgeous glamazon woman all pick guys who have interesting career choices, personalities, and interests. Not necessarily the buff basketball, or hockey player, although I guess Gisele would be the exception, but I never really found her the most interesting of the editorial gals.

The boyfriends range from photographers to music enthusiasts, to even models themselves. How cute!

Tei Time

Love him. Now love my mix.

Michael Dixon - Tei Time With Towa

1. Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star - Towa Tei
2. Mind Wall (feat. Miho Hatori) - Towa Tei
3. Ch. Galaxy - Towa Tei

No Irony Whatsoever

Yay, guessing game time! Which of these boys have you seen before? [click to enlarge]

Success, based out of Paris, seems to focus the majority of their model searching talent on finding the next it guys. None of them are overbuilt, and some may be borderline wraiths, but either way they pick the best of the best, which is proven by their track record. Their army of boys from around the world book shows at Prada, campaigns with Jil Sander, even shows at Lacoste. The list goes on forever. Also, one of the nice things is that a couple of their boys are Canadian! Go team!

I scanned this article from my 10 Plus Men's magazine from last year. If you can't get your hands on one, I suggest you hunt down whomever has one and fight to the death!

80's Done the Right Way.. Finally

I was definitely more than a fan of the hair at Proenza's Spring/Summer RTW 2009 show. Epic 80's do's graced the catwalk with new shapes, fresh faces, and screaming lips. It was all going in so many different directions that it all came together somehow. I just can't get over how Jack and Lazaro have barely birthed their fashion child, yet it's already walking and talking on its own. Cheers, boys!

Since I am already being a bit random by posting about this collection I thought I would throw in an amazing remix of a Justice song for good measure. Please download, not for my sake, but for yours. Stress will never be the same.

Shoe Fetish - NOT FEET

Lately I have been seeing oodles upon oodles of shoes/sandals that I just want to snap up. This is one of them.

Endless

Yes, I have another mix for everyone to download. I planned it only being three songs, but obviously it went a little long.. about 23 minutes long. And do not ask my why I named the track the way I did. I really have no valid reason.

Let's Burn Some Incense

encens. My new favorite magazine. Fantastic shoots, even more amazing articles. Try not loving Raf Simons after reading his life story on a beautifully written one page glossy followed by a history of his runway. And gold embossing on the title?! Done and done.

Also, definitely having nothing to do with this magazine, just mixed a few songs I felt went well together.

1. Sea Lion Woman - Feist
2. Bad News - Kanye West
3. Love Lockdown (Flufftronix Edit) - Kanye West
4. Oceania (with Kelis) - Björk

All Points Towards NYC

In honor of my purchase of a ticket to All Points West and my planned NYC vacation I've decided to provide everyone with a few goodies. Enjoy the songs, and be jealous that I actually get to see them performed live :)

Trendlessness, The New Trend

I recently wrote this on a late night for a British Vogue contest. Apparently the closing date was sooner than I expected and I won't be able to get it in on time. Yes, I am an idiot :)

Trends are always coming and going, but fashion remains with us none the less. How is this possible? Is fashion not a trend in itself? To avoid being burnt at the stake I will go with, "no." I just find it incredibly ridiculous how after a few designers show absolutely everyone rushes out to buy the latest python/leather stilettos, including the high and mighty fashion editors. Even I too have succumbed to trends. Yes, the shoes are very pretty but how did this sweeping decision to run off to Louis Vuitton and make an extremely expensive purchase on a pair of pumps come about?

If you have ever seen Zoolander then you may know that the movie portrays the fashion community as ruthless, money grubbing, power suit wearing snobs who are only concerned with cranking out Nikes in sweatshops at a pace beyond the birthrate of China. "What trend shall we fabricate this time?" "Leather pants!" "No, miniskirts!" "How about cerulean everything?!" Sometimes I really feel like fashion is like this. All these high profile fashion houses coming together to make the unanimous decision to have magenta as the new "it" color.

My main point besides Zoolander being a "ridiculously good looking movie" is that we are set up to follow these trends. Magazines, TV shows, even friends and family play a role. What do I think? Drop trends like they are last season's '"it" bag! Forget about these high waisted jeans and low cut tops. Wear what you want. Even something like fashion can advertise to the world whether you are a follower or a leader. You know what you like and when someone tells you otherwise or that they are not "feeling your look" tell them to go stuff it like a thirteen year old prepubescent girl. I know I might get grilled for this, but in the words of the wise and cartwheeling Betsey Johnson, "If it's pretty and you love it, it goes."

Daria Where-bowy?

At one point I was actually wondering where Daria Werbowy had went. She never seems to be on the catwalk anymore. Maybe she's lost her runway appeal, but if anything that has gained her editorial appeal to the power of ten billion!

I swear that she's in at least five different international Vogue magazines for just the months of April and May of this year. Absolutely psychotic. She's also been the face of Lancome (makeup and fragrance) for a long ass time and recently she shot the Matthew Williamson collection for H&M. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!

Picture shot by Mert and Marcus for April's American Vogue issue. Fusing solar panels, the desert, and Daria together? Fiercely innovative.

Soundtrack of a New Generation

Most of you who have been reading my blogs probably know that I was absolutely head over heels in love with the runway soundtrack to Balenciaga's Fall/Winter 2008 and Spring/Summer 2009 shows.

Since I finally found out what all the songs from the Fall/Winter show were I decided to mimic the mix used for the runway show. I know it's not perfect, but I tried my best! Let me know what you think!

1. Out At The Pictures - Hot Chip
2. Monster - Joe And Will Ask?
3. Flashing Lights (Junior Sanchez's Strobelight Honey Mix) - Kanye West featuring Dwele

CoELLEctions

The other day I picked up a copy of the Elle Collections spring/summer 2009 issue. I pride myself on being able to look at a jacket or a pair of trousers and instantly recognize the designer and season. This mini fashion encyclopedia only adds to my fashion addiction, but I absolutely love the idea. So many collections, so little time, yet as long as I wield something like this I will always be in the know!

Not only are there pictures upon pictures of every single look from the big shows, but Elle went so far as to list where some of the shows were held, the music tracks, the celebrities in the front row, and even the after parties.

Also included is top ten of Elle's favorite shows of the season. Every show listed had a fabulous picture alongside it. This Lanvin runway show is probably my fave. Can you guess who the model is [click to enlarge photo]? Hope so!

Pedal Extremity Couture

So I guess this would be a good time to admit that I have a shoe fetish. Sure, I love men's shoes, but I have this little thing were my heartbeat skips whenever I see an amazing pair of pumps. And no, I do not want to wear the heels that my heart yearns for, I just love to see them paired with the perfect outfit.

You can imagine that I almost died when a friend and I found two iconic pairs of shoes in Holts the other day.

A dead giveaway. Manolo's are Sex. Samantha's sushi outfit was perfectly complemented by this stunning Giuseppe Zanotti heel.

Yes, I know these heels aren't over the top, nor will they make you fifty feet tall, but somehow wouldn't buying a pair of these make you feel like a high brow, independent NYC woman, who jumps ferociously from successful man to man? You don't need to tell me. I already know I'm full of it :)

Lykke Li & Her Kings

First of all, both the Kings of Leon and Lykke Li are quite spectacular on their own, but when you throw them into the pot together, this is what you end up with...

Kings of Leon - Knocked Up (Lykke Li vs. Rodeo Remix)

Downright hot.
